Now in my fourth year teaching at Park Ridge, I am feeling more and more excited and inspired by the students, the faculty, and the community as a whole. There is something about a Ridger... something that makes him/her more engaging, more friendly, and more willing to participate in the conversation of life. In the classroom, we are able to relate that conversation to the students as they were, are, and who they will be. Using wisdom and error from the past, and with the guidance of the writers who had the presence of mind to try to express the world around them, we work toward greater understanding through connection.
I came to teaching later in life. My first degree was in Fine Arts and my first careers were in acting/writing and real estate marketing. However, one cannot deny what is in one's blood; I come from a long line of teachers, and - truth be told - I always knew where my heart was. In 2009, I returned to school to get a second degree so that I could fulfill my longtime ambition of becoming an English teacher. There is no career in the world where there are so many opportunities to do something important. Every day, each student represents a new chance to teach, to learn, and to grow.
